How it works
- Enter the width and the height at each side. The top slopes in a straight line from the left height to the right height. Make them the same for a flat top.
- Add shelves, dividers and a hanging rail. Tap a space and add, or drag boards where you want them. Everything is sized to fit between the boards it meets.
- Add doors and a back panel if you want them. Each carcass can have its own, and you can line several up side by side to cover a whole wall.
- Read off the cut list. Every piece has a letter, a length and a width. Where a piece has an angled edge it shows two lengths, long and short. Turn on the labels to see the same letters on the drawing.
- See how many sheets you need. The sheet layout shows where to saw, allows for the width of the blade, and gives the measurements to mark.
Questions
How many sheets of MDF do I need for a wardrobe?
It depends on the size and how many shelves and doors you add. Enter your measurements above and the planner packs every piece onto standard sheets (2440 × 1220 mm by default) and tells you how many to buy.
Does it allow for the saw blade?
Yes. The blade removes a strip of board with every cut (3 mm by default), so pieces are spaced out on the sheet to leave room for it. You can change this under sheet options.
Can I use plywood or chipboard?
Yes. The sizes only depend on the thickness you enter, so it works for MDF, plywood, chipboard or solid timber panels.
What sheet sizes and thicknesses can I choose?
The most common UK sheet is 2440 × 1220 mm (8 × 4 ft). Builders' merchants and DIY stores also sell smaller boards, such as 1220 × 607 mm. MDF, plywood and chipboard are usually 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 25 mm thick, and 3 or 4 mm for backs. Pick a size from the list, or choose Custom to type your own.
How do I cut the angled pieces?
Pieces with an angled edge show two lengths, long / short. Measure the long length along one edge and the short length along the opposite edge, then join the two marks with a straight line and cut along it. The top panel is cut with both ends at the slope angle shown in the cut list.
Do the shelves fit between the sides?
Yes. Sides run the full height, the top and bottom fit between them, and shelves and dividers fit between the boards they touch, so the cut sizes already allow for board thickness.
Is it free? Do you store my designs?
It is free. Your measurements stay in your browser and are not sent anywhere or saved. See the privacy page.
The planner gives sizes for guidance. Always check measurements against your own room and boards before cutting.
